Duke Nonprofit Management Certificate Program Graduates 19 Southside Recognized Leaders

June 23, 2010 - Tomorrow, on Thursday, June 24, 2010, 19 nonprofit leaders from Danville-Pittsylvania County and Martinsville-Henry County in Virginia and Caswell County, NC, will receive their Certificate in Nonprofit Management (NPM) from Duke University during a celebration ceremony at TheatreWorks (44 Franklin Street, Martinsville, VA) at 4 p.m.

The NPM Program at Duke has been a nationally-acclaimed, leading educational resource for the nonprofit community for approximately 20 years. As a service to nonprofit organizations located in Danville-Pittsylvania County, Martinsville-Henry County, and Caswell County, NC, the Danville Regional Foundation (DRF) and the Harvest Foundation (HF) teamed up to bring the program into the Southside region. This partnership allows these world-class offerings, which regularly cost nearly $1,600, to be offered for $250.00, a fraction of the cost.

"The Duke University Nonprofit Management Program provides an invaluable opportunity for professional development that would ordinarily be both too costly and time consuming to consider for many local nonprofit agencies," said Barbara Parker, Piedmont Arts Association Director of Programs. "I believe that everyone in the class has come away with a better understanding of what it takes to manage effectively and to seek sustainable funding for the important programs we provide in the community. I am grateful to the Harvest Foundation and DRF for offering this opportunity 'right here in our own back yard'."

Registration for upcoming courses is accessible through the Foundations' websites only. Courses alternate locations between the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) in Danville, Va., and the New College Institute (NCI) in Martinsville, VA.
