Published: May 15, 2009 in Danville Register and Bee
The Danville Regional Foundation recently selected 10 college students for its 2009 summer internship program, which runs May 25 through the end of July.
The program provides experience in areas of economic development, education, health and wellness and community engagement. Interns will focus on the long-term economic and cultural transformation of Danville, Pittsylvania County and Caswell County, N.C.
Throughout the 10-week program, the interns will work on different projects with foundation staff, including research and development on obesity reduction, closing the education gap in the area, nonprofit capacity development and economic development efforts to raise local incomes.
“Danville Regional Foundation is very interested in the development of the next generation of well-educated young leaders in the region,” program officer Wendi Ever-son wrote in a news release. “This internship program is designed to link many young working professionals to the region and help to create a world class work force in the area.”
The Danville Regional Foundation was founded in 2005 from the proceeds of the sale of Danville Regional Medical Center to LifePoint Hospitals Inc. The foundation seeks to develop, promote and support activities that improve the health, education and wellbeing of the residents of Danville, Pittsylvania County and Caswell County, N.C.
