DANVILLE REGIONAL FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANT
Community Foundation to Distribute Funds for Short-Term Needs
DANVILLE, VA - (May 7, 2007) - The Danville Regional Foundation has awarded a grant of $1.1 million to the Community Foundation of the Dan River Region to be used for the benefit of organizations in the City of Danville, Pittsylvania County and Caswell County. The Regional Foundation has stipulated that at least 50 percent of the grants be designated for healthcare/human services with the remaining amount to be used for other charitable organizations.
"We have been in discussion with the leadership of the Community Foundation since early in our formation about partnering with us. The Community Foundation can use its organization and grant making procedures to address some of the short-term and more urgent charitable needs in our community, which this grant will allow," said B. R. Ashby, MD, Chairman of the Foundation. "In the meanwhile, the Regional Foundation will continue to focus on planning and putting in place policies and procedures for longer term grants that promise sustained positive impact for people throughout the region. We are very pleased with their willingness to work together with us on behalf of our community."
"The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region is excited to develop a grantmaking partnership with the Danville Regional Foundation," said Dr. Connie Fletcher, President of the Community Foundation. "We are grateful for this gift of $1.1 million which will greatly enhance our next grant making cycle."
With this gift, the Community Foundation will create the Danville Regional Foundation Fund. This pass-through fund will accept applications as part of The Community Foundation's regular competitive grant cycle.
Last year, The Community Foundation awarded 41 charitable organizations a total of $304,275 in this grant cycle. The Community Foundation has awarded over $1 million in grants and scholarships for the past three years.
Applications for Preliminary Grant Request Letters will be mailed by late June to the nearly 200 nonprofit agencies from Danville, Pittsylvania and Caswell Counties on record with The Community Foundation. Any 501c3 organization wishing to be added to the list should contact The Community Foundation office at 434-793-0884.
