Program Overview
The mission of Danville Regional Foundation (DRF) is to serve as a catalyst for innovation and as an agent for transformation to develop and sustain a healthy and thriving region. DRF is committed to the development, promotion, and support of activities, programs, and organizations that address the health, education, and well-being of the region's residents.
As the region undergoes an economic transformation, DRF is working to ensure a rising standard of living; increased income, assets and economic security; and increased human assets and social capital. The Foundation is very interested in the development of the next generation of well-educated young leaders in the region.
In 2010, Danville Regional Foundation will recruit summer interns to work with DRF, the Institute for Advanced Learning & Research, businesses and other non-profits throughout the region.The Foundation aims to link many young working professionals to the region and help to create a world class workforce in the area. Applicants may request to have their information shared with other organizations in the region interested in hosting interns.

The goals of the Internship Program will be to:
- Bring the skills and energy of a group of highly capable young people to the region and to Danville Regional Foundation.
- Provide excellent, project-focused services to the region.
- Demonstrate to young people that there are challenging and rewarding employment opportunities in this area.
- Help recruit and retain young professionals.
Program description
The Internship Program will identify talented well-educated young people to help further the mission of DRF in the region through hands-on project-focused work and conceptual learning in the field of philanthropy. Interns will provide critical support to the DRF agenda while learning to become agents for social change.This program offers a unique opportunity for professional growth, as well as an opportunity to be a part of creating change.In addition to the positions at DRF, applicants will have the opportunity to have their materials shared with the Institute for Advanced Learning & Research and other area organizations.
DRF will provide a dynamic experience for interns with various backgrounds and interests in focus areas of economic development, education, health and wellness, and community engagement.
Interns will:
- Undertake major team projects to further DRF initiatives.
- Receive hands-on experience working in the field of philanthropy and with community partners.
- Participate in weekly discussions with local community leaders about required reading on community transformation.
- Spend a minimum of 2 hours per week working with area non-profit organizations.
- Develop a group of implementable recommendations on what the region can do to attract and retain more young professionals.
Time and Hours
Summer Interns will work full-time, Monday through Friday. Spring and Fall Interns may work full-time or part-time, Monday through Friday. Each applicant's work schedule will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Pay Scale
Interns will be paid up to $14.50 per hour based on level of education and experience.
Housing and Transportation
Housing may be provided on an as-needed basis. Students are responsible for their transportation.
Academic Credit
Interns should pursue academic credit through their department at their College or University. The Foundation will assist with any paperwork required.
